5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Travel mug, July 1, 2010
This review is from: Thermos Sipp 16-Ounce Vacuum-Insulated Travel Tumbler, Stainless Steel (Kitchen)
I bought this tumbler for my girlfriend. When I got it home; I opened it and poured in water from the teakettle. Using a instant read food thermometer I checked the temp. I started at 206 deg, closed the lid and let it set. at 1 hour the temp was 193 deg. At 2 hours 182 deg; at 4 hours 164 deg; and at 6 hours temp was still 152 degrees. over a 6 hours period the temp only decreased 54 degrees. During my test I noticed that the outside of the cup did not feel at all warm to the touch; the only part that changed at all was the top and then only slightly warmer. I also tested the seal by turning the cup upside down for one of the hours with no leaks at all.

I do recommend that you don't put liquid that is too hot in it expecting it to cool down to drinking level on the way to work. you won't get anything to drink.

Sipp is the latest tumbler from Thermos & has several improvements over my Thermos Nissan 14-Oz Stainless-Steel Travel Tumbler. Although the Sipp is good, there are some small cons.

PROS:
1. Keeps drinks hot
Thermos Sipp keeps my coffee piping hot at the office (which is air conditioned) much longer then the Nissan tumbler. Drink is really hot after 4 - 5 hours even with button in open position. Drinks in the Thermos Nissan would be lukewarm by then. As other reviewers have said, be careful not to have drinks too hot or risk a scalded tongue.

2. Leak proof
New mechanism and seals makes the Sipp leak proof when button is in closed position. It will not leak when held upside down (great for traveling). Thermos Nissan has to be kept upright as it is not leak proof.

3. Holds more drink, Fits my car
I love the bigger capacity of 16oz. Slim design fits cup holder in my car.

4. Easy to clean
Mechanism is easy... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars great mug, March 30, 2010

I noticed that this was coming out when I was shopping for mugs a couple of months ago, so I kept checking back until it was released, and I'm glad I did. I had ended up with the Contigo mug before, which was OK, but I never really liked the styling. This mug is at least as good as the Contigo, and is able to be completely disassembled, so those that were worried about the build up in the mechanisms of the Contigo don't need to have that concern here.

Really the only downside of this mug is that to fit the disassembling seals, it is a couple inches taller than most mugs are, being only slightly shorter than an average 20 oz. bottle. The size doesn't bother me, and the sealing mechanism is good enough that even with the mug in the open position (you press down on the middle button, and it will snap in an open position) I'm still almost burning my tongue on my coffee 2 hours later.

Highly recommended!

Bodum Pavina 2-1/2-Ounce Double-Wall Espresso/Shot Thermo Glasses, Set of 2

Customer Rating :
Rating: 4.0

List Price : $20.00 Price : $12.95
Bodum Pavina 2-1/2-Ounce Double-Wall Espresso/Shot Thermo Glasses, Set of 2

Product Description

The Bodum Pavina Double Wall Glasses are individually handmade by expert artisans. Because this glass is mouth-blown, each one may have slight differences in height, thickness and weight. Bodum Pavinas help keep hot drinks hot and cold drinks cold because of the thermal effect of the double wall. The double wall also prevents condensation and excess heat from reaching your hands. Please use care when placing ice into the glass to avoid fracturing the inner layer. We suggest adding the liquid first and then the ice. Please also avoid using metal spoons or placing the glass into a crowded dishwasher. For optimal heat retention, pre-heat the glass before adding hot liquids. Dishwasher and microwave safe.

  • Set of 2 Bodum Pavina 2.5-ounce espresso glasses
  • Mouth-blown of 2 layers of lightweight, durable borosilicate glass
  • Keeps drinks insulated; won't form condensation on outside
  • Winner of the prestigious European iF Design Award
  • Ships in Certified Frustration-Free Packaging

1.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing new version, March 24, 2010
By
Amazon Verified Purchase( What's this?)
I loved the previous version of this glass, which was completely hermetically sealed. The new version has a small hole in the bottom, covered in a silicone(?)-like rubbery compound. On one of my two new glasses, this compound came off in the dishwasher, which means that water gets in between the two walls and is impossible to dry... sort of like double-paned windows where humidity gets in between the layers of glass. So it's ugly and foggy, rather than clear and pristine.

Wish they had left well enough alone!

5.0 out of 5 stars excellent product, surprisingly sturdy, April 9, 2006

Amalfi Coast Girl (Mid-Atlantic, USA) - See all my reviews
I purchased these after seeing them on the Bodum.com website. I admit the cool factor lured me in.

The cups maintain the temperature of a cappuccino for as long as it takes me to get to the bottom of the cup. Additionally it is nice not to need coasters (especially if you have men or children in the home).

The 9 oz cup is less than 4 inches tall, making it fit perfectly under the fill spout of my super-automatic Saeco espresso machine (which I also love).

My husband and I have had 4 of these cups for more than 6 months and not one of them has broken. I mention this because the 9 oz cups seem to be much more sturdy than the 21 oz Pavina ice tea glasses. We broke one of the 21 oz cups with the first ice cube that went into the cup. We broke 2 others in the first two weeks.

Bottom line, I cannot recommend the 21 oz Pavina. However, the 9 oz Pavina cups are very tough, having survived 6 months of daily use with less than dainty... Read more

4.0 out of 5 stars Because a one that isn't cold is scarcely a one at all., December 30, 2005
By
No picture can really do these glasses justice. They have nothing aesthetic in common with any other double-walled cup I've ever seen--elegant, minimalist, super clear and light as a feather. They really keep stuff cold (or hot, as the case may be). They're even dishwasher safe. However, they are remarkably fragile. I accidentally rapped a spoon on the lip of one and within half an hour, the little crack had spread and the glass was in fragments. But if you're careful with them and keep them away from kids, animals, and, apparently, me, they will serve you well.

5.0 out of 5 stars Maglite second-gen LED flashlight deserves a second chance, September 11, 2010

Amazon has combined the 2-D and 3-D cell versions of Maglite LED flashlights into one product page. The following review was original written for the 3-D cell version. See my other review if you are looking for the 2-D Cell version.

==== Original Review follows ====

This Mag-Lite ST3D016 3-D Cell LED Flashlight features the second-generation LED technology by Maglite. You may be alarmed that many of the older Amazon reviews are highly critical about this product. However, please note that the 2nd-gen LED Maglite was not even available before May 2009. That means earlier reviews were all based on the inferior first-gen Maglite LED... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Buy this flashlight, May 27, 2007
LED bulbs are convenient for 4 reasons I can think of offhand: 1. they're "solid state" devices so they're waaay more rugged than incandescent bulbs, 2. they usually have an operational life in the tens-of-thousands of hours, 3. the white LEDs are so "white" in color that they make regular bulbs look yellow, 4. they usually drain batteries more slowly than incandescent bulbs.

LED bulbs have only 3 problems that I know of: 1. they're more expensive than incandescent bulbs, 2. their beams don't seem to travel as far as incandescent beams (could be subjective or flashlight construction), 3. most flashlights that use LED bulbs REALLLLLLY SUCK--CAVEAT EMPTOR!!! I can't stress #3 enough.

If you've never purchased an LED flashlight before, you might be tempted to assume that their beams are just as bright as regular flashlights. You'd be WRONG! I've tried at least a dozen "inexpensive" LED flashlights ($<60) over the years. All of them have left much to be... Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Classic Light Leaves Much to Wish For, January 2, 2009
This review is from: Mag-Lite ST3D016 3-D Cell LED Flashlight, Black (Tools & Home Improvement)
****REFER TO THE CUSTOMER IMAGE I UPLOADED****

The 3-D LED Maglite is indeed an improvement from the traditional krypton Maglites that were used by police in the past. Nowadays police prefer xenon or LED models, especially the Streamlight Stinger or Pelican 7060, especially after allegations that these lights were being used with excessive force.

However, the LED Maglite left much to wish for, especially when compared to other LED lights.

PROs:
*Much brighter than the krypton Maglites
*Has spare krypton bulb in the tailcap should you ever manage to break the LED module, something that rarely happens.
*The focus ability of this light allow you to decide whether you want to use a lot of "sidespill" to light up the room, or to focus all the light into a tight beam to get a lot of "throw." Unfortunately the "throw" only allows you to see things up to 2-3 blocks away.
*Solid construction, the flashlight looks nice in... Read more
